Issues & Platform

Check out the local and state issues that we support.

Member Resources

Our bylaws and minutes are available to any of our members. An archive of our newsletter is open to all.

Platform

Our policy platform on state and national issues aligns with the Democatic Progressive Caucus of Florida (DPCF). Local issues are decided upon by the HCPC membership.

A LIVABLE WAGE

Workers must be paid what they’re worth. We demand broader protections for workers, support the revival of unions, fight for a just and livable wage, and support a progressive tax system.

MEDICARE FOR ALL

Healthcare is a human right. We demand high-quality, publicly-funded, comprehensive healthcare for every American: Medicare for All. We support women’s rights to reproductive healthcare, including abortion.

A GREEN NEW DEAL

Climate change is happening. We must transform our energy economy to renewable sources, and aggressively protect our air, land, water, and the ecosystems that support life.

FUND OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS

We support our public schools and teachers. Every child has the right to a quality, fully publicly-funded education, and the dedicated professionals who make it happen deserve our support.

DEMAND CIVIL RIGHTS

We stand shoulder to shoulder with our LGBTQIA+ brothers and sisters. We oppose racism, sexism, xenophobia, and oppression in all of its forms, and will hold those in power to account.

GET MONEY OUT OF POLITICS

Politics should never be pay-to-play. Florida’s Sunshine Law must be enforced and reinforced. The only free election is a fair election. We pledge to reject corporate donations. We will not be bought.

EXPAND PUBLIC SERVICES

While some in the county wish to impose austerity measures and cut our public services, we work to ensure that the public commons is expanded. Moreover, we say no to the ransacking that is privatization.

BOLSTER OUR UNIONS

Union workers helped build and transform this country. We support all union members and strive to work with local unions to build their membership.

LEGALIZE MARIJUANA

It’s simple: let the people have their weed. More importantly, we must stop locking folks up and start releasing those currently incarcerated for minor drug offenses.

WHO WE ARE

What is a progressive caucus?

Hernando County needs an organized, local, progressive voice. We engage the community to advocate for progressive policies and help get progressive candidates elected at the local and state levels. We work to make Hernando a better, fairer, and more inclusive community. For more information, check out our FAQs page.

Our regular meetings are the third Monday of each month. We have an optional social at 6:30 pm, and the business meeting starts promptly at 7:00 pm.
